About Well Read

Karina Carlson Well Read

Hi! I’m Karina.

I founded Well Read in May 2018 because I had been to one-too-many DC wellness events that left me seeking more. If I was asked about what I did for a living ONE MORE TIME I was going to spontaneously combust 🤦‍♀️

I wanted a shared experience (like a workout or meditation) that connected me to others, establishing a level of trust and community that opens vulnerable conversation.

Despite my search, I couldn’t find this type of gathering, so I built it. I’m so grateful that people come to work their bodies and minds together. Thank you for making Well Read events possible.

The format.

Well Read events have 2 parts (with snacks in between 😉)

We kick things off with 30-60 minutes of wellness. This ranges from body-focused work barre, cycling, boxing, dancing, yoga to mentally-focused work like guided meditation, breathwork, reiki and more.

We wrap things up with an article discussion. We talk about the important shit like: negotiating at work, personal finance, mental health, social justice, sex and sexuality, toxic friendships, the environment and so👏 much 👏 more 👏

What people are saying.

Well Read is a gem of a community concept that blends wellness with discussions on #realtalk issues impacting DC-area womxn: sex, body image, alcohol use/sober curiosity, beauty standards, social justice, finance, and more. The woman behind Well Read, Karina Carlson, is effervescent and full of life -- she makes these topics approachable and her fearless vision allows DMV womxn to leave each event feeling empowered. I know *I* feel like a boss babe every time!
